Meet the stress team: the key players

Let's meet the key players in stress. These five players are responsible for igniting and propagating the 'fire' that each spark of stress triggers. As you can see in this short video, there are essentially two teams and they sit in opposition to each other. In a normal setting, all the players are in perfect equilibrium. When the balance is tipped, one side wins over the other and the effects of stress spread like a wildfire.

There are two functional parts of the brain that play a key role in stress. These serve the functions of emotion and cognitive function. So I am calling them the 'emotional' brain (amygdala and its connections and medial forebrain structures including the medial prefrontal cortex) and the 'logical' brain (the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, other parts of the prefrontal cortex, parts of the cingulate cortex and parts of the hippocampus).
